Nutrition

Family and Consumer Science Extension Educators provide research-based information and healthy eating educational programs that are based on the 2005 Dietary Guidelines. Eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods every day, while meeting calorie needs, will provide the balanced nutrition you need to stay healthy and prevent, or control many chronic diseases.

Our Family and Consumer Science Educators promote eating plans that:

  • emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products
  • include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts
  • are low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) and added sugars
